Born in Dover, the fifth of six children born to Frederick and Anna Maria Taylor (nee Hopper), Jack was a tram driver before he enlisted in Dover as a Private on 08 Dec 1915, into the East Kent Regiment (The Buffs). He served 255 days total enlistment and was killed in action 92 days after being posted to the Front.  They never found his body, he was only 21 when he died.

Jack was awarded the British War medal and the Victory Medal.
