  • Notes
    • From 'My Family & I' by Frederick Gurnsey:

Thomas 'was an itinerant farm labourer which meant that he would be employed by a farmer for a specific job and when that was done he would be laid off. He then had to rely on the 'grape-vine' to hear when any other farmer wanted work done and he would then have to get up very early and walk miles to that farm perhaps only find that the job had been taken. It was a very hard and precarious life but he managed to bring up a large family in a small cottage in Lenacre Lane, Whitfield.' [6]
