  • Notes 
    • George went to Perth, Australia in the early 1900s and went mining in the Kalgoolie region of Western Australia. On 3rd March 1916 George enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force. Although he was in his 50th year [and far too old to join the army] his papers state that he was 43 years of age, unmarried, a builder by trade, with his brother Willis of the 'Ship Inn' his next of kin. At that time his postal address was Lawlers, Western Australian.2
      His personal description was as follows:
      Height - 5'7"
      Weight - 156lbs [just over 11 stones]
      Chest - 39"-41"
      Complexion - Fresh
      Eyes - Blue
      Hair - Fair
      Religion - CofE

      He left Freemantle 20 Sep 1916 for Plymouth, England and from there to France on 12 Dec 1916. He was repatriated to England 25 Jan 1918 and was hospitalised for some time with "Debility". Returning to Australia on the 'Marathon' on 31 May 1919. He received both the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
