MISS E. G. PILCHER. Another link with.the early settlers of the city was severed yesterday with the passing away in her seventy-first year of Miss. Edith Gertrude Pilcher. Miss Pilcher was the younger daughter of the late Mr. Thomas W. Pilcher, who was prominent in shipping circles in Wellington in the seventies, Pilcher's Wharf being a well-known landmark on the Te Aro waterfront. The late Miss Pilcher, who spent the whole of her life in Wellington, was an accomplished musician. As a member of orchestral societies and musical organisations over a long period of years, her presence among the players of stringed instruments was familiar to all music-lovers. Many of the younger violinists of today owe much to her capable and sympathetic tuition. She lived in retirement during the past few years, but always maintained a keen interest in Church activities, particularly in St. Mark's parish, of which members of her family were among the earliest parishioners. Her brother Mr. Ernest G. Pilcher, and her sister, Mrs. W. J. Hueston, predeceased her, and she is survived by three brothers—Messrs. Herbert Pilcher (Cape Town), Thomas W. Pilcher (Eastbourne), and Harold Pilcher (Wellington). Mr. E. B. Pilcher (Invercargill) and Mesdames W G. Tustin (Karori) and J. B. Hopkirk (Lower Hutt) are cousins. [2]
