'This is my Life' by Clifford T Willis [pdf]
'This is my Life' by Clifford T Willis [pdf]
Born in India in March 1923 Clifford was the third generation of Anglo-British immigrants in the sub-continent. His grandfather, George Willis, had been born in Barham, Kent in 1871 and, after serving with the East Kent Regiment for 12 years he remained in the sub-continent, settling down and bringing up a family.
Clifford's autobiography, written when he was in his 70s, recollects his childhood memories of growing up in India, his career in the Indian Police Force, the family's move to their 'homeland' of England (where he was a village policeman) and eventual migration to settle in Australia. It's a fascinating read!
Clifford is still alive and well and both he and his close family are happy to share his memoirs with as many relatives as possible.

John William HOPPER [b1869] - Petition
John William HOPPER [b1869] - Petition
Newtown, December 31st 1889

To the Maryborough Borough Council

Gentlemen

We, the undersigned residents of Newtown and White Hills living on or near the Four Mile Creek, do hereby beg your attention to the fact that our water supply has been entirely cut off by the location of Chinese Market Gardeners about one mile and a half from Maryboro', and on the watercourse.

We would specially draw your attention to the fact that they have fenced in said creek, and we respectfully ask that measures may be taken to remove this fence, as, were this done we might ourselves keep the channel clear of obstructions.

Trusting you will hear our prayer and by speedily putting the law in motion relieve our necessities.

We humbly subcribe ourselves,

H Rogers, W Hopper, James Slattery, Pat Conlan, Alfred Broda, William Broad, John Walkin, George Bainbridge, J Swann, P Frenery, Andrew Hall, Thomas Owen, George Clapham, John Johnson
