Montague was born in 1885 in West Brompton, London, the fifth of 7 children born to George and Clara Durrant (nee Glover). He married Kate Murton in Faversham, Kent in 1910.

In the 1911 Census Montague and Kate were living at 12 Finlay Street, Fulham in London and Montague’s occupation was described as ‘Assistant Relieving Officer’.

They had two children, Ronald (born 15 Nov 1911) and Muriel (born 27 Dec 1913). They were just 6 and 4 years old respectively when their father was killed.

Montague Durrant of No. 3 Platoon, “A” Company was reported as missing on 8th May 1917 by the Red Cross.
